چکیده

63 Introduction Bone defects attributed to serious periodontitis, trauma, and injury are commonly encountered in the fields of dentistry, craniofacial surgery, and orthopedics. Although autogenous bone grafting is still considered the gold standard for treatment, this process has several drawbacks, such as the requirement of a second surgery and the limited availability of collectable bone [1]. Artificial bone grafts are thought to be promising alternatives to autogenous bone grafts. Several calcium phosphate (CaP)-based biomaterials, such as hydroxyapatite (HA), tricalcium phosphate (TCP), and octacalcium phosphate (OCP), have been intensively investigated for use as artificial bone because, under appropriate conditions, these materials show excellent biocompatibility and bioactivity [2, 3]. High-temperature TCP, known as alpha-tricalcium phosphate (-TCP), is often prepared by the sintering of amorphous precursors with the proper composition [4]. Its calciumto-phosphate ratio is theoretically 1.50. In general, -TCP dissolves more easily than OCP, -TCP, and HA under neutral pH conditions [4]. Furthermore, -TCP converts to apatite in aqueous solution over time [5], to lowComparison of the Bone Forming Ability of Different Sized-alpha Tricalcium Phosphate Granules using a Critical Size Defect Model of the Mouse Calvaria

Comparative Study of Bone Repair Using Porous Hydroxyapatite/ β-Tricalcium Phosphate and Xenograft Scaffold in Rabbits with Tibia Defect

Background: Bone tissue engineering requires materials that are biocompatible, mechanically suited for bone function, integrated with the host skeleton, and support osteoinduction of the implanted cells for new bone formation. The aim of this study was to compare the osteogenic potential of xenograft with hydroxyapatite/β- tricalcium phosphate (HA/β-TCP) scaffold. Methods: New Zealand rabbits (...

Micro-CT Analysis of Bone Healing in Rabbit Calvarial Critical-Sized Defects with Solid Bioactive Glass, Tricalcium Phosphate Granules or Autogenous Bone

OBJECTIVES The purpose of the present study was to evaluate bone healing in rabbit critical-sized calvarial defects using two different synthetic scaffold materials, solid biodegradable bioactive glass and tricalcium phosphate granules alongside solid and particulated autogenous bone grafts. MATERIAL AND METHODS Bilateral full thickness critical-sized calvarial defects were created in 15 New ...

ß-tricalcium Phosphate Granules as an Alternative Material for Ocular Implantation

Background: Some types of implants used for orbital implantation have side effects and complications. In this study we have evaluated beta-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP: ChronOS) granules as an orbital implant. Methods: Eighteen rabbits randomly allocated to four groups. Right eye enucleation performed in groups I to III followed by filling with autologous bone particles (n=5), a mixture of autol...

Evaluation of the effects of autologous adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells in combination with polyacrylamide hydrogel and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds on healing in rabbit critical-sized radial bone defect model

Objective: In this study, the bone regeneration ability of polyacrylamide hydrogel and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds (PAAH/NHA) and stem cells derived from adipose tissue (ADSCs) in the healing of critical sized bone defects in rabbit radius were assessed. Animals and procedures: 12 New Zealand white male rabbits were divided into 3 groups. The rabbits were anesthetized and 15 mm bone def...
